Default Body Drop - Ready to Go!

Well, its been two years since I pulled the body off my old chassis, located a new 1970 chassis, moved the drivetrain over and prepped everything for re-assembly.

I had a fourth child in the meantime which slowed things down, but I've found time (thanks to my lovely wife) to get things going again.

I can't wait to get this car driving!

Thanks to everyone who has helped and advice from the forum.

Thats a nice looking chassis. Hope all goes smooth with the drop. You will remember this day a lot longer than the day it came off.

Thanks for the comments.

The camera is the Canon Digital Rebel 6.1 MP with a 18-55mm lens. I have super sized images of the car before I pulled the body at the following link: http://www.gearheaddroppings.com/My1970Corvette.htm

The camera has be extremely valuable to keeping me sane on this project, especially after two years. I cannot stress how important it is to document each step as you remove things. I keep a laptop in the garage with all of the images on it for quick reference.

Some people have asked me how the body is going to go down. Actually, the chassis is going to go up. The body will be strapped to the ceiling and suspended (and yes, there is around 100 lbs of extra wood criss-crossed in the rafters for reinforcement!). The chassis will be raised. The lift is a godsend in this situation. Here are some more images of the body:

Cool ... a chassis raising as opposed to a body drop.
It will be a good day filled with a sense of accomplishment.

I dropped mine - gently.

I see that you had the exhaust on. I am debating doing this before the body goes on. Any advantages of doing this (other than freeing up room in my basement!).

Thanks

Only big advantage is being able to get at the manifolds easily and
tweak the hangers without lying on the ground. Even so, mine has
now developed a slight rattle with one pipe tapping the tranny crossmember.

Sidepipes soon for me.

PS - I see your foam body shields behind the #2 mounts.
They should be an inch or two in front of #2 mount.
