Well i was fixing my distrib... problem and my dad was helping me. I was getting no spark, he took off the spark plug cover part and held it away to see there was no spark... Then i plugged in a connector, and tryed to start it again.
He jerked when i went to start it and touched the spark plug and well i found out i fixed my no spark problem..... Can this do any bad damage to a person, My dad was just jumping around for about 10 minutes, and tweaking, but i dotn think anything major happend..
Anyone else have this happen and find any bad affects...
I don't think it would hurt a person in good heath, but if someone had a weak heart.....But I bet your Dad shocked himself on a car when he was young. We all do it if we work on them long enough. It is a very short shock, so everything should be fine.
Ive hit the end of a spark plug with a worn out boot on a weed eater. It jolted me pretty good. I think he will be okay unless he has a heart monitor or something like that.
If Dad has a weak heart, it could stop - or jump start him. It is only painful for a second, the worst part is the knee jerk reaction when you bang your (head, elbow, knee, etc...) self against the car from the shock.
I always thought thats how you checked for spark. Just stick your finger between the boot and valve cover while you jump the starter with a screw driver. You mean there's a better way?
Has anyone ever charged up a condensor ? Pretty interesting jolt there also. Some of te responses here made me laugh,,,hope yer Dad will be o.k. ( he should be) and that he forgives you soon,,,
Peace,,,Moosie

I guess he can now put that on his 'never to do again list'. If he's a brave man, he may want to try pissing on an electric fence. That'll take 5 years off your life.

I have a breakerless distributor with a promaster coil...i think it says something like 35,000 volts on it. Well we were replacing the module inside the distributor and my dad had the key turned without my knowledge. I reached over and reconnected the coil wire and got every bit of it. It was the wierdest feeling I've ever had. For lack of a better term I felt "wired" for the rest of the night. No pun intended
