Default New hood scoop

Raised the center section 2" and moved it 2" back. Fiberglass is a PITA.....

Can't wait to get it smooth and painted.......

Looks like she's got potential. Should come out very nice.
I was gonna do something similar, but I have since decided
to get the cowl induction working with original Qjet/manifold.

I moved it 2" back. I verified that the wipers clear the scoop

It all started almost 3 months ago with a simple heater core removal...... then I decided it's the perfect time to get a new windshield.... then suddenly I removed the rear glass because it leaked.... had the glass guy who installed the new windshield glue the rear glass back in place.... screwed up the paint around the rear glass, stripped the entire car and installed a homemade shark errr...smartbar (copyright issues, don't want to pi$$ thenm off).... since the car is stripped and I'm getting ready for paint I thought it's the perfext time to add flares and raise the hood.....

I removed the interior and ordered new carpet.....

I raised the hood mostly just for looks.... I wanted a L-88 hood but the scoops are too short. Now it clears my 3" air filter without a drop base, the base is currently hitting my distributor and the wires.....

Flares are next on my list.... excuse me while I scratch my arm, that fiberglass really itches....

Geez RedBad1979,

That seriously has to bet he absolute worst case of the "While I'm At It's" I've ever heard of. A replacement heater core spawned new glass, custom hood and a paint job.

You should get a prize for that kind of dedication.

I thought I was bad when I replaced my intake gaskets and painted my pullies because of the WIAI's

I was asked to provide some more details, well, here we go:

First you have to cut the center section out, a 4" angle grinder and a cutting wheel does the job well. Now prepare the pieces for the fiberglass resin, this is a lot easier now that you can turn the center section over and access the underside. Prepare the outside as well (use 40 grit sandpaper and sand a 1" wide section along the cut).
Now this is the very important part: find a spacer and place it between the hood and the scoop to get the desired height.
Run a rope from the center of the nose to the T-tops and tape it in place, that helps you with the alignment left/right.
Move the scoop back to the desired position, make sure the wipers clear the scoop.
Place a spacer on the radiator to support the scoop. Take many measurements and eyeball - make sure it's in the right position, then glue it in place using fiberglass resin and mat. These temporary strips (shown on the photos) will be ground off later once the underside is glued... when the underside is fiberglassed (2-3 layers of resin and mat) continue on the outside, remove the strips that you used to hold the scoop in place and fill the gap with resin and mat.

RedBad doesn't know it but I was keeping up with him until about a year ago, it was nice seeing all his pictures and following along, then he left me in his dust. Yeah I got body and paint this winter but I'm having fun with my car while the weather is nice .

Nice work. My biggest problem was work time and temp. I was trying to work it in 100 degree weather and my work time ended up being about 2 min's.
