Default Paint for a 73

Need to buy a can of paint that matches the color of the car to do some touchup on my Blue 73. It used to be there were basically two types of paint: lacquer and enamel. What are the different types of paint now, what is the difference between them, and which would be best for this job? Any advice appreciated.

doesn't really matter what all the choices are....... you should find out what the paint on YOUR car is and use the same type to touch it up.
If it's the original paint it would be lacquer, otherwise it could be lacquer or enamel (both single stage paint), or basecoat/clearcoat paint.

Original paint on all Sharks was acrylic lacquer with the exception of the Bowling Green cars; they're acrylic enamel with clearcoat.

Your problem will be color matching. If your car has the original paint, it's been exposed to the elements for thirty+ years now. Touch up paint will be shinier than the original and have a deeper color. Small places might be okay, but larger areas will be immediately noticed.

Thanks. I have one spot that needs attention and know that I can make it look better than it does now.
