Do they make them out of stainless steel? Or is it just chrome?

Well consider me convinced. I'll be drilling-n-pinning my hood real soon. And rosslato, I'll be "borrowing" some of your ideas for wiper-cover design, hope you don't mind.....

Mine are stainless, check out coleman racing for the real ones, not the cheap crhome ones you find at "pimpmyautozone".

Do you guys remember years ago they used to have keyed hood pins.
You would use a key to open your hood, which was nice, nobody could mess with your engine,it was locked. The key was a round key with divets in the end of it which fit in a round circle of a hole with tumblers in it.

Hood pins are amazingly the same thread as the latch pins! At least on my '69. Just unscrew the latch pin and screw in the hood pin. No brackets to make!

The only downside is that the pins are not even across the hood, the passenger side is closer to the windshield.

It's about 1/2 the weight and makes everything easier.
how is needing two people to remove your hood easier?? and when you get it off where do you put it?? Mine goes on the cage but if you have a coupe you`re screwed...my hood is Dzus clipped on (look down the sides of the hood for three on each side) and it`s a total pain in the *** BUT I don`t have much choice......BTW it`s a lightweight from Five Star.

If you like the looks ...go for it! Most of the time, yhey really aren't a necessary thing, just a racy add on.

They are a necessary item if you can go over 160 mph.bury the speed ometer, with my car the hood acted like it was going to pry off the car with the air pressure from underneath.I can see how they would help.

It only takes ME to remove the hood, pull the pins, lift off the hood.
I put it on top of the car with a towel under it. unless it's windy then I put it in the grass.
Easier in that the hood is out of the way when I need to work on the engine.

don't you think its possible to retain the hinge even on a paper thin fiberglass hood and just pin the rear?

On my first Corvette, a '65 black 396 roadster, I had a '67 big block hood with pins and Dzus fasteners in the FRONT! This was 1977.
One day, my buddy and I were caravaning somewhere, and the pins just kinda "went away" and the hood flew open, and STRAIGHT UP held in place by the stock retaining pins at the top!! I am absolutely telling the truth.
My friend saw me in the rearview mirror and nearly peed himself. I however, avoided the "nearly" part.
This is on Rte 128 in Mass... a little traffic anyone?
I slowed to a stop and crept off to the breakdown lane. Then had to use my sneaker laces to fasten the front down where the Dzus fasteners were missing.
Oh, your thread brings me back to a traumatic day.

Your right! I would assume that you would take other safety precautions before venture into this range of speed also!
