Default Power steering... An ODD quirk...

In the quest to get my Vette on the road, I just installed a new PS pump, using aftermarket brackets (from EBay).

After filling the pump with fluid, I cycled the front wheels lock to lock, and then topped off the reservoir. But something interesting- at idle, everything appears normal. But when I blip the throttle, the wheel actually pulls anywhere between 1/8 and 1/4 of a full rotation of the wheel.

WTF?

Any ideas on how to cure this... "problem?" There are no leaks, but the PS has not been hooked up for VERY long time- Bubba had taken the original 350 out, put in a 454, and just ran it without the PS hooked up...

Any input would be greatly appreciated- I've never seen this sort of thing before... BTW, it's a '74 with a 427BBC, TKO-600, idles about 800 RPM.

i've heard if you have the hoses switched around it will turn the wheel by itself.

the hoses at the cylinder were still intact, just held up (with a coat-hanger) out of the way... So it was easy to hook up, as the high-pressure line could only go to the threaded hook-up, and the return line to the nipple (with a hose-clamp)...

I tend to doubt that this is it... Any other ideas....?

Sounds like it's just a little off balance.

Very simple to check and adjust.

Just a control valve not balanced. If the hoses were reversed, the wheel would jerk back and forth. Found this out the hard way

Thanks, everybody, for the reply.

All fixed, used the papers..... AND used those papers to align the car.

Took it for a drive tonight- the first time it's been on the road in 3 years!!!!

It was cool... though I need to solve the overheating issues...
