Default where to find this part??

ok, I need a new battery terminal cut-off switch for the '78. You know, the kind with the green **** on it.

Everyplace has them for top mount batteries but no place i've found has them for sidemount terminals for the battery in the '78.
I know i've seen them before so they are made, just nobody seems to carry them.
Where have you guys been able to find these?

Hey Barry, have you tried J.C. Whitney? They have all of that funky stuff, you just need a magnifying glass to read their catalogs.

thanks guys, I'll try JC Whitney and Ecklers.
I had checked all the local auto parts places plus Summit and JEGS and no one had the sidemount ones so thanks for the suggestions!

I bought one and tried to install it just to find that you can't get to it after installing it on the side of the battery. Not pratical. Took it off. Forget it.

The **** kind can still make partial contact when almost completely screwed out. Shocked the heck out of me numerous times. Removed it and smashed it with a BFH.
Blade type is fool proof.

Yes, the **** type suck, I've had the power come back on after I closed the door. The blade type are MUCH better.

Had one on my sidepost battery and there are pieces of %$#%^. After a short period of time I developed a problem where the car would not start when hot. I thought it was heat soak and replaced the starter. I guess the starter draws more amps when hot and this little piece of crap didnt allow full amps to reach the starter. Threw it away and my starting problems went away. Dont buy the kind with the green screw. Maybe someone makes a better quality of the one I purchased...but the one I had caused nothing but grief.

If you want something safe and that will last go for this type, theres a little re-wiring involved but its well worth it.

You can mount it in any of the rear compartments.

geez guys, I've had the green **** type on my '65 for almost 3 years now with never a problem. that's a top mount style but it works fine.

i think I'll wait until I get to Carlisle after checking these catalog prices. Ecklers wants $11.99 for the sidemount model plus shipping of course. Last year I picked up a couple extra for a buddy of mine that needed them while at Carlisle and they were selling for like "2 for $8" and you could even mix and match top mount or sidemount.

Ick ick ick.
I had one, it worked but it was such a PITA.
A blade one would only be slightly better...

I put a rotory switch below the rear bumper, the kind they use in drag racing. Ran a long ground wire to it then from it to the frame.

No more digging around in the battery compartment scratching my hand up.
No more wondering if I remembered to turn it off, I can see it.
It's more reliable, don't have to tighten it because the car wont start.

And it looks cool ( but I like the drag race look )
