Default 79 horn issue

I replaced the horn contact on my vette and now it is ultra sensitive. so much so that I have been unable to put the cap back on because it constantly goes off. I have reassembled it like the assembly manuel showes and I have put in three shims that it had when I disassembled it. Help Please

Check to see if one of the 3 plastic rivets broke

I had the exact same problem when I replacing the horn contacts. When the cap went on, it flexted the ring out to the point where it contacted the surface and sounded the horn.

I, very gently, bent the tabs out a bit that hold the cap and then did some more tweaking to keep it from going off. It is still sensitive, but I have to make contact before it goes off ...

Of course, a touchy horn is better than one that doesn't work at all. The previous setup was held together with nylon wire ties!

I am guessing an assembly issue. That horn assembly is touchy and when I put mine together I had similar issues. When it is assembled properly it will not be touchy and should work for a long time without problem. Take it apart and study it very carefully. There are exploded diagrams in most of the major supply house catalogs, so use those as reference.
