Default Oil on engine block, help!!

I found a little puddle of oil on my engine block this morning, any idea what is causing this? I live in South Jersey, anyone know of a honest mechanic?

I fyou man on the intake manifold then this is pretty easy to fix. Most of the time you just need to remove the bolts one at a time and clean and reseal them thread sealer.

Thanks for the info. I am the furthest thing from a mechanic, do you think it is safe enough to drive about 30 miles to a mechanic?

had the same exact problem…

Defiantly safe to drive 30 or more miles…

I had let it go for over a year and then finally got to fixing it. Very easy to do. If you ever feel like it I can help you fix it. I live in Philadelphia

Where in S jersey are you. There are a few forum members here from S Jersey. I don't trust anyone with anything on my car. I have done everything but paint on my car.

I am in Swedesboro. Only 15 min from Philly. I am looking for an honest mechanic. I can do the minor things, but I am reluctanct to pull the engine apart!

Do I need to get any parts? Or just the thread sealer?

Just the thread sealer now. Seal up the intake threads and see if this works. Where exactly is the leak. Is it on the intake? If so just some RTV sealant on the threads will cure this. No need to disassemble the motor. If you ever decide to do the motor many here will help. It is a lot cheaper and more satisfying to do it yourself. I have done countless motors in the years gone by. Nothing scary in there at all.

I will snap a picture of the engine tonight when I get home, so you can see what I am talking about. I am not 100% sure if it is the intake manifold. You can tell how mechanically inclined I am on cars. I just inherited the car from my Father, he had a bunch of engine work done. I saw oil under the car and on the engine. I drove it two weeks ago, but was reluctant once I saw the oil. Any help is much appreciated.

I know exactly where Narberth is. I am actually from Lansdowne, PA. I will take a look at it tonight, if it is over my head, I would be willing to take you up on the help.

I found the same thing on my manifold where the intake bolts are, only one little puddle by the second bolt on the drivers side and the guys on the forum helped me with it. I did what the said with the locktite on the bolt after removing it and cleaning it and it stopped it completely.
These guys are the "BRAINS" of the Corvette world, they know what they're talking about. A mechanic will charge you big bucks to do a 1/2 hour job that you can do yourself, or will tell you it's some major problem.
listen to these guys they are the greatest

I took a look and it is leaking at the bolt on the manifold. I turned the engine on and put a few drops of water on it. It was bubbling quite a bit. So I should unscrew the bolts put the RTV Sealant on and tighten then back? Sounds pretty simple. Oil is leaking from somewhere else, there is oil on the garage floor. I was thinking about taking it to a mechanic to give it a once over.

Yep , take the one out that's got the puddle by it, clean it put locktite on it and put it back in. Torque it to specs and that should take care of it. the oil on the floor is probably from the oil pan or some where else on the bottom,

Thanks, I will do that tonight. The oil on the floor, should I be overly concerned? I drive it about once a week for about 10 minutes. I just dont want to neglect the car and have bigger issues down the road. The car is sentimental to me so I will never sell it.

Depends on how much there is there, if theres just a few drops i wouldn't be to concerned but if it's a big puddle then I'd check it out.
Keep it forever

Don't worry about a little oil on the floor. Mine has leaked a little for quite some time. Even the new motor is a little damp at times after a hard run. No need for loctitie. Some blue RTV is plenty. Loctite is for holding the bolts. The RTV is for stoping or sealing leaks. If you do use Loctite use the blue not red. Red does not let go, it takes heat. The blue Loctite will release. I prefer blue RTV for most of the sealing on the motor.

I'm on vacation this week but any other time I can help let me know.

The bit of oil on the floor is most likely from the leek at the bolt and running down the car to the floor

Thanks everyone for helping out a rookie. I went to the auto store and they recommended Permatex #2 Non-hardening sealer. I pulled the bolt, cleaned it up and added the sealer. I am going to test it out tomorrow. Hopefully this works! Thanks again.

I have used #2 a lot and it works well for this situation.
