I Have A 1970 Coupe That I Bought In 1980 From The Original Owner. It Is Painted "corvette Bronze" (paint Code 993). There Were Only A Hundred Or So Cars This Color In That Year. They Had A Problem With The Ontario Orange Paint And Used This Color As A Substitute Until The Problem Was Corrected. At One Time Years Ago A Group Kept Track Of These Cars. Any Info Would Be Appreciated. Thanks Russ

NO. I HAVE A FRIEND WITH A 71 BIG BLOCK THAT LOOKS LIKE THAT AND I THINK IT IS CALLED WAR BONNET YELLOW. I KNOW IT DOESN'T LOOK MUCH LIKE YELLOW, IT ALWAYS LOOKED MORE LIKE A GOLD TO ME, BUT WHAT DO I KNOW. THANKS FOR THE REPLY. RUSS

Russ, welcome to the forum. I have a 70 also but nothing nearly as rare as what you have. There is a webpage that is maintained by a forum member that is keeping track of the 70 vettes since GM did not do the job. She is doing a wonderful job with the page. Her user name is Juliet and her webpage is 1970 Corvette Registry. Check out her webpage and add your info to her data base.
I saw one today, waiting to be auctioned at Carlisle. I wasn't aware of the color, I thought the 1970 orange was Ontario Orange. This one didn't even look "bronze" to me, it looked kind of pale dark orange. hmmm.. that doesn't help, wish I had a pic. When I went to the other side the owner had a placard with info on 70s and the color and how rare it was.

....There were 2 that color in Carlisle. The one in the auction, and a all original paint one for sale in the field. The original one in the field would have made a great stablemate for 70 454 as it was a 454 vert..Very tempting
I too have a factory Corvette Bronze 70. The Ontario Orange shimmers more and is brighter. Corvette Bronze has a little more brown hue and isn't quite shiney. Even cleaned up it looks slightly dull. Here is a picture of a 68-69...
As far as rarity... no one knows how many were done up in Corvette Bronze. It was a color option in 70 and other years.. but not chosen often. I have not found Corvette Bronze to drive prices on 70's...
First used in 1968 as 992 Paint option of which 3300+ Vettes were painted this color in 68. Apparently not offered in 69 but used again in 1970 of a unknown quanity. However it was also used as a special order only "OO" paint option in the 68 Camaros of which there were only approximately 1200 BB Camaros produced with that specific color. Very rare in the Camaro line also as a one year paint. For one not familiar with the color it`s sometimes described incorrectly as copper. One person even called it Red. He must of been color blind.
