Default Steering Wheel Position?

First off, my 68 has been completely taken apart for a couple of years so I can't remember how it was. I am in the process of putting the steering gear, pedal assembly and column back in the car.

Here is what I am finding, the centerline of the seat and the centerline of the steering gear are not lined up. So, I looked at some C3's and found that the steering column is not straight with the centerline of the car and neither is the steering wheel. I assume GM did this to center the wheel on the seat.

Anyone else notice this? Do you get used to it? Seems weird.

Yes, the column is not parallel with the frame.

Thanks. As I said, I have observed this also. What I would really like to know is, do you get used to this? To me it seems weird.

Actually I never noticed it until I pulled the column out. There's quit a few cars like this. They need to bolt the steering gear box to the frame which never seems to line up with the center of the seat. I guess they could have used a couple u-joints and a connecting shaft, but that cost $$$.

BBSHARK,
Yes you get used to it.
I have had my 68 since 1972 and I am used to it. No problem.
