Default Muffler advice for 468

It's hard to find big block vettes with performance mufflers around here to listen to. So I'm looking to the forum for advice. It's a 69 convertible, the engine setup is a 468 with 215 heads with 2.19 intake, 1.88 exhaust valves and pocket ported, compression is about 9.75:1, 2" primary long tube headers, Edelbrock 396C intake (old high rise relieved dual plane), and a 870 Street Avenger. I'm looking for a muffler that sounds good but isn't too obtrusive, but also doesn't restrict this engine. I had the delta 50's on my 73bb, but they did sound pretty good but they were evidently pretty restrictive becouse I picked up a lot of power after I went to the high flow muffler sidepipes. So don't recommend those, becouse they will deffinitly be restrctive on this engine, but if I could get similiar sound quality with a lot more flow that would be great.

Thanks for any help

In three 69 Camaros, I run Dynomax Super Turbos which are just right for me. Flows are too loud for this old man (48) and plus I don't like the way they sound. The DST's flow great and have the old muscle car sound I like.

But I'd be willing to listen to a recommendation that's smooth, with a good deep mellow sleeper tone,..one that doesn't drone or over-power my Delco radio.

I am trying to decide also. corvettes sound different than other cars with same type of engine due to the fact the muffler is at the end of the pipe and you have no tail pipe. I was leaning towards the delta flow 50's

Your question is similar to one that I asked a few days ago. Here's a link to that thread: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1476012

I have decided to go with Pypes' Race Pro mufflers. Good luck with your hunt.

I have Dynomax UltraFlos with an x-pipe under the differential. Although these mufflers are a straight-thru design, it's a quiet system. I think the X really helps keep the noise down. Anyway, here's a link to a video (it was shot in low light so it's really just a sound file):

Clicky

Thanks everyone for your replies. I've been considering the ultra flows for a little while now just haven't heard them in person on anything similiar to my setup.

Brettmc, thanks for the sound clip. Sounds about what I'm looking for, especially since you seem to have a similiar setup to what's in my 69. How big of a cam and what compression are you running? Also how is the interior noise while cruising with your setup?

Thanks again

Compression is low, probably in the 8s. When I bought this car, owner could give me no info at all on the engine specs. Interior noise is very low. There is no resonance, and, I can even hear the electric fuel pump at stop lights, and that awesome intake moan when I get in it. Cam is a Comp 274.

I like the Ultra Flow, you can see thru that thing so it must flow pretty good

I've had one on my DD and it's really quiet considering it's straight thru design.

Well I went with the Ultra Flow's. Just what I was looking for They have a deep tone at idle, are ok at WOT, and are extremely quiet on the highway. Very similiar to the Delta 50's I used to have on the 73, but without the power loss, in fact I think it may have gained a few ponies over what was on the 69 when purchased.

Thanks

Excellent choice! Glad you're satisifed with them. Do you have an X- or H-pipe? Can you post a sound or video file?

Sorry just now getting back to ya, been on vacation. Didn't run anything fancy just the normal straight duals out the back. Wish I could post a sound clip for ya but don't have any equipment to do so.
