stereo recommendations for 1969 'vert
I am looking for a decent yet subtle set up with a c/d player/f m radio 4 speakers and perhaps a subwoofer. Factory correct look if possible (not a huge deal if not possible)
Anyone familiar with doing this?
Thanks,
Mark
IF you do have the urge to build a woofer enclosure yourself, I'd recommend JL Audio woofers. They're designed to work in unusually small enclosures, and sound pretty good... Maybe a single 8" and a small sealed box, and you'll have something... Bigger than this, and it'll get complicated real fast...
I just did a Kicker Solobaric 10", S10L7. It works with a 1 cubic-foot box (sealed enclosure), and can run 600 watts. I picked up an Audiobahn A5100T surround-sound (5.1) amplifier. For my coupe, I was able to install the entire thing in the very back of the cargo area, only 6" of depth lost. And the amp will power an entire stereo system... (This is important, to get one amp that can power EVERYTHING, or packaging of multiple amps becomes as difficult as packaging the woofer...
) For mine, I really haven't decided on a source unit... I just finished the mock-up of the enclosure tonight- as you can see below. I know the pics are bad, but they were just quickies that I took before I closed up for the night...

But I know that you can run an FM-modulated CD changer... It feeds the stereo through the antenna cable, and can be hidden nearly anywhere... As your goal is to look stock (and clean), I think this'd be your best bet...
As to your front speakers...? I honestly don't know. I'm still trying to solve this problem for MY car...
What do you do with your T-tops say for a long trip?

Honestly, this is the third Vette I've owned, and my habits tend to be to either leave it on for a long trip (and take the top(s) off once I got to my destination), or pull the tops for the entire weekend...
Of course, when I made the latter choice, I didn't have to worry about some punk trying to steal my stereo...
For long trips, I'll probably have to either leave the tops on, or pull the woofer out (not a fun task, as the fit is VERY tight)....
If you want in-dash CD, buy an aftermarket bezel which will accomodate the extra width of the CD. Pack away your original bezel and hang on to it for future resale/reinstall purposes.

Enjoy the car with the top down and forget the music. Leave that for the station wagon you drive to work.

Tweeter in door 6 1/2 Mid/woofer in kick panel. Nothing in dash

I did not want speakers in the dash, because the windshield reflects the sound right to you,
which is like a 6db gain. Your front imaging is much better with using the kick panels.
