One thing i can say about my vette is it has always, even with the carb, had a instant start. hit the key and it fires before it makes a 1/4 turn. Its always impressed me that it starts so quick....cold, hot makes no difference
if everythings running good, probably 30 seconds or so. as soon as i get in the car i pump it 5 times then let it sit for a moment and then try. when its turning over i stand on the pedal and it normaly goes.
In 4 years, I've only ever had one problem starting....that's when the solenoid screws had backed off the starter....I quick fixed it by pressing a wooden hammer handle over the solenoid while a mate cranked her over.....
Every other time, even when I had a hack of an engine, it's fired right up....no cranking
hit the key and it fires before it makes a 1/4 turn.
Well........ If I can beat 1/4 turn then I would have to say "Instant"
3 pumps when cold and thats it...it fires right up
I honestly dont think the engine makes a full revolution before it starts when its warmed up..Click..bang, its running.
I did a compression test last week and to hear the starter turn so many times made me cringe.
I suppose since I have a low HP/Compression engine the starter will last many years....
I would gladly trade replacing the starter every year for some more HP which will hopefully be the case before the end of September As I plan on rebuilding the top end with the help of a good friend ...
Mine starts within 3 or 4 seconds but if its cold I have to keep the rpm's up for a minute or so because the choke on my quadrajunk is inop. But i'm still impressed how easy a 30 year old motor that has never been touched fires up.
Not as easy as some of my other Q-jet cars I've had in the past. It cranks for a few seconds after sitting for a week or more. Now, once it's warm ,it'll start right up. I did notice though coming back from Carlisle, it doesn't like to start after a long highway run. It seems to be flooded and kicks out black smoke for a second or so. Lars are you listening? When are you going to be doing carbs again, I need your help!
Depends on the mood of the car. Sometimes it will start up right away and other times it will take a few cranks. I never pump it with gas before I try and crank it because if I do it will flood the carb - ALWAYS. I think that is because if my airgap manifold so I have learned not to pump it. As for the deiseling that someone else mentioned, either get that fixed rather soon or get in the habit of turning off the car while it is still in gear so it will not do that. I had a slight problem with that for a while because I was running too hot, so I got in the habit of turning off the car in drive and would never diesel. Got the temps fixed so that does not happen anymore.
1 pump to set the choke and it fires immediately (stock rochester quad, rebuilt in last 4 months). I do drive it everyday to work - stays happy that way!
1 pump, start die. Start again and stays running. It's done this as long as I've had the car and no amount of fiddling with the time seems to change it. I figure at least it's reliable.

A little more tension on the choke spring when it's cold should cure that.
