Default Torington Thrust Or Brass?

The Torington cam thrust bearing I have is the newer kind with the case that wraps around the rollers. Has anyone had a Torington failier... like bearings blowing up?? Manley no longer makes the brass thrust bearing to fit their timming chain sets, but I did find other brands.
Which do you use/trust???

The one on back side of cam gear right? Torrington installed in all circle track motors I build & most other guys'. Never seen a failure there. I pre-lube mine by hand-squeezing a bit of assembly lube over it & into small openings. Prefer Rollmaster and Cloyes sets. Perhaps Cloyes may still offer the Bronze 0.150" thick piece ... P/N 9-220B.

Thanks for the reply Jackson. I've heard that early on the bearing case design lead to failier, but the newer case has performed well. The torington thickness is perfect for my application and the cam lobes line up perfectly with the lifer bores. I'd need more than one solid shim if I were to change. Just don't want little bearings floating around my oil sump!!!
Thanks again
Eddie

Aren't you supposed to machine a groove in the front of the block for the torrington bearing to sit in ? I bought one but never used it because I didn't want to take the block back to the machine shop and have this done Besides there is nothing that forces a roller cam against the block

Eddie:
The captured needle bearing (torrington) that comes with the sets I use are right at 0.150" thick (bearing Cloyes P/N 9-220) ... interchangeable w/ their Bronze plate 9-220B.

No groove needed w/ most torrington sets available today because the bearing is enclosed within its own races and cam gear snouts are proper length. Yes there is a force that'll push a roller cam both front & back ... the oil pump-distributor drag ... during acel & decel. Because of that, same true for circle track "flat tappet" motors I build ... run both torrington & cam button because of op drag ... and because of lobe taper ... these are race motors, not street ... & most run Hi-Vol pumps w/ more pump drag.
