Has anybody here replaced their stock rearend with a straight axle.I was wondering how one would drive and handle on everyday driving. And how much would be involved in doing this mod.I am considering this because i have went through 3 rears and axles too.it seems when you throw some hp to our rearends, they break. Also does anybody have pics of this done?

What type of HP are you running? Are you putting slicks on the car when they go bad? Have you done anything over stock to beef up the rear end of the car? I can set you up with a pretty much bullet proof rear for as much as it will cost to get a solid axle and have it installed.

700hp,and the rear is still stock besides the heavy duty gm rear.I broke 2 jack pots,1 drive axle,2 universals.I have been told over the years that the weakest part of a corvette is the rear. And i believe it.And all the breakage was done with street tires I use to have 456 gears and then 411 gears and now i put 355 gears in.Also all the vettes that ive seen that race at the track, most of them run straight axles.
You need to, at them minimum, run 30 spline axles. I would suggest the 30 spline inner and 31 spline outer axles. Your diff will have to be rebuilt to except the larger spline inners as well. The spider gears are heat treated as well. The u-joints go from 1350 series joints to 1480 series u-joints and the 1/2 shafts are .134 wall thickness. Your next step up is a 12 bolt conversion.
I should also say i have detuned the car since then.I am redoing the engine and cutting the hp back.I was just interested in what it would take to put a staight axle in one of our cars.I just might take you up on the parts later on.How much hp do you think your setup will handle?

I would suggest the bigger kits that we offer since you will be using slicks. Using the stock 10 bolt posi your good for about 900 HP. Using the 12 bolt posi in the stock housing your good for 1300HP.
