My front bumper is cracked right in the middle so I need to replace it anyway but the other day I noticed that it had cracked on both sides now. The front was cracked when I got the car. But I have had the car for 2 years and now these cracks just showed up.
I did have it jacked up replacing the spare tire carrier. I put jack stands just in front of the rear tires. Do you think my car is flexing too much? Should I be looking for something? My frame seems pretty solid, but this seems wierd. What do you think?
When the first crack appeared on mine, I blamed the kids for running into it with their bikes. Then other cracks started appearing and before long the bumper literally started falling off the car. Its time for a new one.

They just get really brittle and fall apart after about 25 years.
The newer flex-glass replacements work well. I look forward
to replacing both ends on my 74. It is a "work in progress"
for this "diamond in the rough".
This car was neglected since .....oh, about 1975

Had the same thind happen to my 75 the fact that they are bad makes it A little bit easier to put the new ones on because you can just (Carefully) rip the old ones off i kept my corvette letters on the back in one big piece. At Autozone buy the ratchet wrench that takes off the little bolt holding the re-tainers on and save your self hours. I ordered my front and back bumbers at the same time and saved like $100.oo or so .the front took three days the back 1 night good Bumbering to ya . Flex fit out of Toledo.
You may already know this, but you should always crack the doors, pop the hood, etc whenever jacking the car to allow for flexing.
If your car is damaged from jacking, you need a new frame immediately.
Your front bumper is not likely cracked from jacking ... just it's time to go.
I went with Truflex on my front: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1214386
Search for Toledo Pro and contact them for pricing (cheaper than website advertises).
Shipping is dirt cheap.

Same experience here.First a crack, then before I knew it,the whole thing started to come apart real fast.I ended up buying a new fiberglass front.Haven't put it on yet.Of course if you just need a cheap, quick fix,you can buy a bra.

So, what bumper is best, Fiberglass $299, flex-fit $329, or urethane$239 (from the Ecklers web site)? I kind of like the idea of fiberglass but does it have to fit exactly?
What did you all use and did you like the fit?

a fiberglass bumper will probably be the hardest to fit. i know mine was a pita. but i think it is better because it will never end up with waves in the top of it like the urethanes.
