What a blast....34 Corvettes...about 6 Cobras....102 F in the shade and we ran hard for 145 miles round trip.We stopped halfway at an Indian Casino for lunch...
The blue Daytona dropped a drive shaft just pulling into the Casino. As we parked,Border Patrol was busting some illegals...(.lunch was great.)..when we came out,two California Highway Patrol cars were parked near our cars joking they had 16 tow trucks coming.... They were really cool and just joked as hardly anyone had a front plate...
And...six miles from home I lost my water pump...no big deal..and I recruited some more C3'ers to the forum...Good day all around..
My 78 never seen anything over 200..even at 80+ mph.....I figured I lost pump when I seen coolant appear at hood/fender joint on drivers side..I had heard a loud belt squeal earlier hitting 2nd gear hard...OOPs !!

Now for a short rant....I'm dumping AAA...this is the second time I have got a busy signal/and or..."our lines are over-loaded" recording for a tow in 6 months....I called a local company (Two Bit Tow) and they were there in 30 minutes...cheap too...

Sounds like fun... By the way..that will teach ya for not taking the 502 Seems strange in regards to the AAA I've never had a problem with them, but... if I did ever get a busy signal... I think I might sack them too. Muddy

Last time they told me it was a "computer glitch"..they reinbursed me..but I'm tossing money away..got the "Plus" coverage...wonder what the story will be this time...

I've had probs w/AAA as well, decided to just get towing through State Farm instead.
I get more miles than the standard AAA towing (I believe it's 50 mi. radius), I can call just about any towing company I want and get it covered (Western Towing, throughout San Diego, just wants to see the little thing on the insurance card saying I've got emergency roadside assistance, and write down the policy number)...The only downside to this is that it only covers the car, not the driver, so if I were riding in someone else's car, my roadside assistance through State Farm wouldn't cover it.
Anyway, looks like you had a great time, including the stop at Golden Acorn...Where'd you pick up the 8 freeway from your run, out by El Centro and then come back, or did you make the run out by Lake Morena and then out to Golden Acorn and then back on the 8? It looks like it was fun!

We went 15 South from Mission Valley to 94 east, then took 94 all the way to Live Oak Springs, then to Golden Acorn..we returned on Old 80 thru Pine Valley,Descanso....very little traffic out there..think it was the heat...102 f
