Until a couple months ago, the original engine from my '69 had been collecting dust in a barn ever since she threw a rod-taking a few chunks out of the block-along with the cam shaft breaking into three pieces. It's in too bad of shape to rebuild, but I wanted to keep it around so I decided to make possibly the heaviest coffee table ever!
The valve covers were dull and dirty as hell, but after a lot of Flitz and Dremel'ing and some red accent paint, they look pretty decent.
I was hoping to have the glass rest flat on the valve covers, but as you can see below, the intake manifold sticks up too high. I havent decided how I'll fix that yet, any suggestions?
hmmmm.... not an idea right now but you might get an idea from some of my furniture items on my site www.237am.com........ i would take off the covers and expose the rockers and then go from there.... how many people actually have seen under the covers....might make for a good conversation
You could get valve cover spacers. Since tey don't have to seal I'd just make some wood spacers and paint them black.... use the valve cover as a template.
How much do you need ? It looks like 1" would do the trick.... a 1x8, 8' long is about $10....
I saw a table made out of a LT5 engine on the forum once. Put the a carb and air cleaner ash tray on top the glass.
Nice, I was considering some coasters from the old pistons

Nix the carb & intake ... replace intake with a clear piece of lexan (lookeesee: lifters!) ... like a valley pan.
Way cool. Put a timing cover and water pump on the front, and some shorty headers on the side. I like the carb/air cleaner ash tray idea. I got a 327 small block in the garage. Wife won't let it or the Harley inside. Anything you need for that coffed table engine, let us know.
