Default tank sticker removal

Who here has removed a tank sticker? I originally planned on keeping the sticker on the tank and swapping tanks. The problem is I cant find a 71 LT1 gas tank. So.......I might try to peel the sticker.

Only a couple square inches are visible of the sticker right now and that area appears to be in excellent shape. Has anyone attempted this and if so how did you go about it and what were the results?

Thanks

more likely than not, even though it appears to be in good shape it is probably dried out and faded for the most part. it is almost impossible to remove it in one piece regardless of what you try. if you want to guarantee that it is preserved in whatever condition it might be in, would be as you stated, replace the tank. i hate to sound pessimistic, but the odds of a successful 100% recovery aren't in your favor based upon age. i hope i'm wrong in this case. the best way to even get started is to drop the tank if you decide to give it a try.

for what it's worth, i believe that the 71 tanks are being reproduced. did you check any of the major parts suppliers. it's the later 70's (78 and up) with the bladder, that are yet to be reproduced by anyone. used is the only choice on those.

Drop the tank and shoot pics of the sticker, then cover it with plastic and seal it (tape the edges of the plastic).

Leave it for the next owner or you have it if you need it.

mine was very brittle and the glue was some early form of Gorilla glue that baby was stuck. first I took several pictures of it in case it did not come out good. then I used that clear packing tape on it to make it stay together, it would crumble when you touched it and the paper was very soft. then I just took my time with a razor to seperate it from the glue. worked well and it stayed in one piece, without the tape I would have had a handful of useless paper pieces, good luck

Yea I was thinking of going that route. I definetly dont want to mess it up but I do want to document it. Pictures sound like the logical route and then of course the plastic to preserve it

Thanks everyone for the input.
