Default headers fit

i've never installed headers before, so this may be a dumb question, but are there any headers that fit right up to the existing exhaust without any cutting? I'm talking about under the car headers, not sidepipes. also, what would be the best fit headers for my '72/350 with air? is it worthwhile getting them powder coated? and last question, how is driving on the freeway for sound, as i don't want it to be too loud.
thanks

No headers that I know of will fit up to the stock exhaust exactly.....any muffler shop should be able to custom make you a custom short piece to connect. (On mine, I used a piece of flex pipe to connect up and had Tuffy Muffler match my bended piece.) Check the mauufacturer's notes for fitment info; they all have it for each application. Powder coating?....can't say, but ceramic coating or Jet-Hot is definitely worth it; otherwise your headers will rust out un a couple years or so. Sound ?....you have to judge, but with a full exhaust hooked up, they are not much louder than stock.
