Q-Jet woes
79 L82. runs fine when up to operating temp. won't idle on initial cold start up (even in 100 degree Texas weather). must be kept at 1000 or more rpm for 1 to 2 minutes to keep it running. then it will idle at about 500 rpm. idle rpm will slowly increase as engine temp increases eventually reaching about 800-900 rpm at normal operating temp. i've been all over the manifold looking for leaks with WD-40, etc. and can't find any.
any ideas on what the problem can be?

Hi Gg
Agree it sounds like a choke issue.
I'm in Houston and the hot air choke on my 76 qjet goes through a 'warm up' cycle in both mornings (73-78 degree) and afternoons (96-100 degree) though the afternoon one is pretty short and sometimes begins at the second detent on the choke cam (lower rpm).
My initial rpm is set at 1300, and drops in stages to 800 in park or neutral, 600ish in drive.
I drive the car every day to work and this is my normal pattern.
