Who makes the best windshield for a 78? Is gm available? anyway got tired of looking at the crack in the windshield so I popped it out today. Bird cage is in very good shape so a little painting and I'm back in business.
I dont really know which brand ,but I do know that you get what you pay for, dont go with a bargain price one because they are often cheaply made and have lots of distortion which will wind up being very annoying. Othe then that there aint nothing like a clear windshield to make driving more enjoyable,,,,,,other then a Corvette. Peace,,,Moosie
A new windshield is one of the few parts your insurance company will pay for too. My thanks also to the dump truck driver that went off the road in front of me and tossed a rock directly through the center of the old windshield--you have caused my great joy (the new windshield) even though it wasn't your intention.
It's not likely GM would have any, unless your parts man was able to find a cache of NOS somewhere. An automotive glass installer should be able to obtain one for you. Any Corvette salvage yards in your area?

I prefer doing a w/s myself. Pro installers will cut corners sometimes. I cleaned up my w/s channel and used epoxy primer on it.
I went to a local glass shop here in Austin and got a PPG windshield for my '69. Got a 3/8 inch butyl tape kit and a tube of moisture-cured urethane w/s sealant. All this together with tax it was $160.
I'm doing the same thing. Getting ready to go outside and paint the frame right know. Looks like two votes for a PPG. Tomorrow I will go to a local shop and order a PPG. Thanks for all the input guy's Its back to sanding and painting for me.
