I recently bought a correct fan blade for my '72 and at the same time had the opportunity to buy a correct alternator so I did. The fan blade arrived okay but the alternator (which cost $460), did not and it appears I have been ripped off.
I read somewhere recently on the Forum where another member had a problem and there two websites in the US given for contact in relation to International Fraud, I live in Australia.
Could someone please advise me of the website. This person lives in LaJolla CA. He deals in Corvette parts and if the fraud is substantiated I will pass on his details to Forum members to beware.
Hopefully it's just a little shipping mixup and you'll see your alternator shortly. After all, Tasmania is about as far away as you can get. Good luck.
La Jolla,Ca ??? I live in the San Diego area...sounds like a private party as there are just a couple here who do internet business...and neither are in La Jolla....
Does this dude have a website ? Maybe I can check him out for you....you can PM details if you want..

He provided a tracking number for the fan blade but not the alternator, and guess what the alternator has not arrived after 3 months, the shipping was $65 and should have taken about 21 days.
He then offered to send another alternator or refund but now will not communicate. He was dealing on Ebay and thats how I first got talking, will try and find his username. Probably what he has forgotten is I have all his detail from the Customs Declaration of the first item he sent and have kept every email including the promises since. I also paid for it with Paypal so there's are record.
Doesn't Paypal have some kind of claims service? Or if your Paypal account is paid through a credit card, put a stop on it immediately. The internet fraud thing sounds good, and may help you, but I doubt it. Over here, this would be a civil mater, not criminal, or not criminal enough for anyone to do anyting about. Good luck
I am not sure about getting a refund from Paypal when you don't use Ebay, but that's another option. I have given the guy another 7 days to respond and have indicated that I will be contacting authorities for assistance after that time.
We need to have a level of trust but unfortunately this is the third occasion with internet deals where it appears I have been ripped off.
Living in Tasmania it's the only way I can get parts for my car and it's a bit frustrating.
Thank you for your help and if he does turn out that he is found to be dishonest in selling Corvette Parts his details will be put on the Forum.
Paypal offers insurance for anything under a 1000 dollars per item. I know as I have collected twice on it. To be sucessful you must go to the paypal site and file a complaint. One of the reasons listed is not receiving your merchandise. Fill out the complaint and they will arbitrate the dispute. If the offender doesn't cough up the merchandise or the money paypal will. Be polite in your contacts with paypal and the person who ripped you off. Don't let it get personal and state that you are only interested in getting your merchandise or your money. The odd thing about my situation was that I had two deadbeat sellers in a row. I beat both of them at their game. One was for 800 dollars and one was for 70. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS DO NOT LET SLIDE YOUR TIME. Try to file within their guide lines on time frame or you will be out of luck. I never let anybody set on my money or merchandise past 30 days on Ebay. If you don't get it within that time frame somebody is usually trying to weasel you. I send them an email after two weeks. Then on the third week if no response send them another one. If no response on merchandise or money refund by the fourth week file your claim and don't look back. That is the one feature I like about paypal, is you do have some recourse without having to call the law or hire an attorney.
The alternator cost what ??? Why so expensive ? I recently had mine upgraded because of adding a new high power stereo and amp system It was around $ 140 with labor. Pm me before spending that kind of money.. It will cost no more than what the item legitimately costs and shipping. Plus rebuilds here are as dependable as new for customs declaration and import tax.

I had been chasing a correct dated 61 amp for my '72 BB and I thought this was my best option, it was supposed to be restored. I have since bought another for $300. Hope tghis one arrives. Living in Tasmania i am not in position to barter and can only hope people are fair.

i can't speak for $460 alternators and i must admit i don't know where hobart tasmania is but perhaps you should be looking for simple replacement stuff like a $90 alternator.
i bought a 61 amp alternator at Autozone for $30 about 3 years ago. was gonna use it "just in a pinch" until i could get a "better" one. it's performed flawlessly and i have no plans to replace it now until it craps out (whenever that is).
Paypal was no help as they said it didn't fall into their criteria. I bought the alternator privately and used Paypal to pay for it. Will use the other sources members advised.

It is probably because you bought outside of ebay I'm guessing. I wish you luck on getting your money back. It sucks when people are not honest. Don't give up, contact the attorney general of the state you purchased in. A lot of them have a consumer affairs represenative that can send a nasty gram to the person who ripped you off. If they are threatened with legal action by the state they live in they may just give you your money back or the merchandise. Most states have web sights for the attorney general.
