I drove the 71 to work this morning. I noticed I had some jumping or spikes on the ammeter. It generally stays just to the right of the "0" or center but I noticed it was intermittently jumping for a split second towards the high side. I noticed the wipers wouldn’t come on when the switch is activated and I'm wondering if the two problems are related. I'd appreciate any ideas as to what the problem is. I did install a new $75 Interstate battery last week. Any clues or ideas guys??
Is your instrument cluster housing broken at the "thin area"?
The wiper switch needs to be grounded, and it is grounded through the cluster. If the cluster is cracked/broken, and separated, there is no ground to the switch.....no wipers.
If it's touching intermittantly, that could account for the amp spikes. Chuck
