I have a 78 Pace Car and I'm not happy with the fit of the T-Tops. They stick out much further than the line of the car, especially in the back. The tops themselves are in very good condition, no scratches or wear. I have no idea if they are the orginal tops or not. I can't see a way to adjust them to get a better fit, and I'm afraid of stressing them to the point of getting cracks. Anybody else have to deal with this, and are there any solutions? I'm afraid to just buy a new set, as they may have the same issues as these.
The glass tops DO tend to sit a little higher than painted tops, they're supposed to. You're right that they can look bad. There is some adjustment but not much. Shims under the 2 blades at the center can be removed and there's a little slop in the bolt holes at the front outside but at the rear where the rod comes out that's pretty much it. I'd be careful messing with them if they're original laminated tops. A friend of mine bought a set for his 79 and ended up selling them because he was unhappy with the fit. He stuck with the painted ones.
If you're not sure if they are original, post the date code. A 2 LETTER code at the outer rear corner. I or someone else can tell you what the date is. Not a gaurantee of originality but if the date is correct for the Pace Car I'd be satisfied with it. Every glass top dated early 78 went on a Pace Car.
