I've got a 1970 C3, i'm currently trying to restore. I'm trying to decide if it's just the bushings, or if perhaps there's bigger problems to deal with.
The car has some VERY bad Negative Camber problems.
How often to the springs fail on these cars? I heard that a possible bad differential could cause negative rear camber like this. Is it possibly the diff?
The bushings are shot, i'm going to be installing new bushings over the next week or so.
Yes, worn stub axles will cause excessive negative camber that cannot be corrected within the normal range of strut rod adjustment.
The good news is that rebuilt yokes with hardened end caps are available for pretty cheap, and this is a great opportunity to assess the overall health of the differential. Plus, "while you're at it" you can replace all the rear bushings, rear wheel bearings, and detail the rear half of the undercarriage.
I made the assessment that the bushings are SHOT. And have new poly bushings for the whole car. that was going to be my first project. But, looks like dropping the differential will be.
I know with the C5's DTE is the company for diff builds, and Rodney is the man for transmission builds.
Who do you guys use for Differential builds?
Or do i only require two new yokes. And have a local shop install them?
Around here many recommend VanSteel in Clearwater for T/A's, Diff. rebuilds, etc. With all the metal from your side yokes sliding around in there I would be cautious about just replacing them.
BTW, I like those wheels. They look a lot like mine.
Cautious, perhaps.
Sometimes I am not, and replaced my yokes as a first project .. years back.
As I recall, I didn't even drop the pumpkin, but you DO have to get the
cover (and maybe the diff crossmember) out of the way.
Unbolt half-shafts and the yokes slide ou tafter removing the Clips inside.
If like mine, they may be worn to the point of no longer having C-clips.
They were eaten to dust many moons before.
Good luck ... lots of dirty work just dropping it down.
If looking to have someone rebuild it, contact Gary (gtr1999) here in C3.

Thank You,
This is my first C3 project. I've done numerous Drivetrain installs in C5's with the transaxel. So, I'm hoping that has prepared me for what i'm about to face in the C3. Sunday is when i'm planning to start the removal.
