Default Side exhaust question

Does anyone know of, or have they ever had the factory side exhaust covers rechromed?
Is there anyone out there that does this? I have a good set that need attention.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is an ongoing question. I've heard that they're difficult to rechrome because the underlying surface is potmetal, and to do it correctly would require a special plating process before the chrome is applied. Apparently not many shops can do it, and it would probably cost more than a new set. Then you have to repaint the black stripes.

I would be interested in a solution as well. New ones are just way too expensive.

There's no real magic to plating pot metal - you just plate it with copper first like anything else. The big problem is bad pot metal castings that require tons of soldering to fix before you can start plating.

Librandi's in Harrisburg, PA has done several center sections for me.

Never had the end or front pieces done, so I can't comment on that.

Cost? Seems they were about $300-$350 each, but that was 2-3 years ago. They were in pretty good shape to begin with.

You do have to repaint the black "fins", but that's no big deal. Chuck

So, I guess we just need to take them to a chrome plater and see what he says.
