Default light switch hot

I Have A 73 L48,ac,auto And My **** Is Gone On The Light Switch. My Concern Is That When The Headlights Are On For
Awhile I Can Not Hold On To The Switch Rod Because It Will Burn My Fingers. This Is No Joke. It Has Been Doing It Ever Since I Purchased It In Jan 06. Is This Normal Or Should I
Concerned? Should I Look At Changing The Swich Out? Has Anyone Had This Problem Or Is It Normal? I Know If The **** Was On I Would Not Have Ever Noticed It. Please Advise.

Make sure its the correct fuse for starters. Does you vehicle have the dimmer option on the lights? Does the dimmer work? wondering if the dimmer coil at the front of the switch is broken and diverting power to the shaft. Should not get hot.

Just so you can visualize what I mean...take a look at a piture of the switch on the eckler site.

If you have your dash lights dimmed it will get hot. Try setting dash lights to full brightness and see what happens.

If this doesn't change anything I would replace the switch immediately. These switches have burned up too many nice cars already.

The hot switch on my '81 turned to smoke one night on the way to the Vette club meeting and lead to a complete interior redo project alot earlier than I had planned. Replace the switch.
