I am getting around to rebuilding the front end of my '68. I noticed that the drivers side spring coils were closer together on the bottom than the passenger side. I got the lower control arm out and for some reason the spring is upside down. But the wierd thing is that the tape on the spring that was supposed to be at the lowest part is at the lowest part.. Could this be a goof up from assembly? It doesn't seem to have had any work done under there. Could this have been the problem of my bad vibration in steering?

That spring is the same as my 72 LT-1 which is a progressive spring. I called Van Steel so as to get the orintation right as I did not realize the orintation when I demo'ed the suspension...The spring is upside down and I certainly would imagine it would have an effect, in what your describing. I'm sure someone will chime in on how it was mistakenl'ly installed that way...Muddy
Is the other spring progressive?

I would like to add that I did have a simmilar issue years ago with a bad spring in the front of my 72 Caprice. The steering wheel would rotate back and forth a good amount at highway speeds. Once I put some rubber spring spacers in between the coils on the bad spring, the problem went away.
Certainly a Bubba Fix on my winter roach, but at least I was able to identify the problem that way.
Both of mine looked like that when I took them out. They certainly aren't going back in. I've got two brand new ones with coils that are nice and evenly spaced. I just assumed they got that way after 35 years of sitting/rusting.
