The other method would be to cut off the 1/4 tip from the end, and then rebend the loop 1/4 inch of the way up. That is risky because the loop is a cheap steel that will easily break.

cut the tip, rebend the loop???.....how about placing the sides of the bail in a vise and tap on the center with a SMALL hammer.....

I tried that method too, and messed it up somehow.
Well, I didnt use a vise, but tried to steady it on the garage floor, and maybe that was my problem.

Vise method works. I had to do that on a Dodge master.
