Default Insurance Suggestion Needed

Can anyone recommend a company that will insure a '77 for full covereage and unlimited miles or at least 10,000 miles per year. Would you know off hand how much the coverage is? Thanks!

Well I've got my '81 insured with Mercury for like $1200 a year with 7000 or 8000 miles a year and I'm only 21. $250 deductibles 100/300/100 liability, rental, towing, and uninsured motorist.

Default No Mercury, just air

Mercury won't do it. Is there no insurance company that will touch the car and cover me for 6000 miles or more a year?

How old are you? I know progressive will, but they're not cheap. Esurance will, too and their rates aren't TOO bad.

big apple,
hagerty is who I am insured with. they have a mileage stipulation, but flat out told me that cannot enforce it. any car before 1981 cannot be tracked by mileage according to them. in fact, they didnt even ask my odometer reading. you have to have a garage to keep it in, and a daily driver(with proof of)
I pay $238 a year for agreed 35k value.

screw Hag insurance go with your normal insurance company might be a little more more money but well worth it. Classic insurance has too damn many restrictions

my regular insurance company would run me about a grand a year, and only give me stated value. stated doesnt even come close to meaning you will get what its worth....this is why we used AGREED value.
if my car was totaled under stated value with liberty mutual, I would get 12-15 grand(their words not mine). this far from the worth of my car. like I said, the mileage may be a requirement on paper, but they do not enforce it so you might as well protect it the right way assuming its not your only car and you have a garage.

Downside of haggerty, you have to pay in full up front.

Not all of us have that kind of dough on hand.

Default I Understand........

Yeah i gotcha but this isnt a cheap hobby, i would figure that most people can afford $200-$300 upfront that will get ya $25,000 coverage or there abouts.........it costs more in gas to run your car then that......i'm certain if HAGGERTY thought that was a major issue that they would come out with a payment plan..........if $200 all at once is too much up front, i'll be honest, YOUR IN THE WRONG HOBBY !!

Just wondering why I pay $273 at over 40, no tickets for the past 33 yrs, drive less than a 1,000 a year. Maybe it's my location????

You had better read your policy.

From Haggerty's web site:
http://www.hagerty.com/Auto/vehicle_qualify.aspx

Usage. Hagerty provides coverage for vehicles that are used on an occasional basis -- e.g. club functions, exhibitions, organized meets, tours and limited pleasure driving.

Hagerty does not offer an insurance product for:

Regular-use vehicles driven on a daily basis

And I am sure the policy is even more concise on what they do or do not cover. A lot of people go on how they drive thousands of miles per year and go to the store and so on, but the fact is, they are not trying to put in a claim for their Corvette stolen from the mall while shopping at Macy's or Penney's, stolen from the convenience store while picking up some items, hit in traffic going to work 30 miles away, and so on.

And you will often find that insurance companies will pay out ONE TIME even if the driver was wrong in the use of the car, but then they can't insure with them again. And it screws up coverage for everyone with a legit collector car that goes only to shows and club events.

Default I'm 33 in Westcheater, New York

Here's where the annoyance begins. My girlfriend (former office intern) is on my regular car insurance and apparently you can not have classic car insurance with a insured driver with less then 10 years driving experience even though they will not be driving the car.

I tried my current insurance carrier (Geico) who said they will not be able to place a value more teh $1000 on the car. I called Hagerty and had no luck. Sooooo, if any one in Westchester, New York or in the immediate tri-state knows of a better company I am ALL ears. Thanks to everyone for the helpful suggestions so far.

Where does it say "LIMITED" miles ? call them, i can assure you after 2 claims with 7 cars on my current policy, with them, for over 15 years, there is NO, ZERO, NADA, NUNCA, ZILCH, any miles restrictions.........

Unless there has been a HUGE change, . For cost purposes, I keep my insurance on my family's account, and our agent has the 77 insured through Hagerty (and it's been that way for a long time). My dad and I traded some things off when I was 21 and I took the 77 - no problems.

Haggerty is the best by far based on my personal experience, research prior to buying, and the recommendations of many on this and several other forums. I spoke with lots of owners who had multiple collector cars and they all said, Haggerty, without hesitation. I am in Massachusetts and drive my collector cars out of state when I feel like it and Haggerty told me it is not a problem as long as they are not my only source of transportation, in other words, I have a daily driver. No mileage restriction. I pay less than $400 for Agreed Value on a restored 68 Corvette and restored 79 450SLC. My regular insurance company formerly charged me over $700 for the SLC alone and had less coverage with higher deductible. Haggerty has higher coverage and lower deductible. They also assured me that in case of any damage I could use the dealers of my choice for repairs and/or body work, not some guy working in his backyard part time just so the insurance company can save money.
It was a no brainer.
