Looking for any NEW info, not the old stuff on the search I did, on what might be the best speakers one could get for the kicks in my '73.
Since there's always newer and better stuff coming out these days, wondering what anyone may have come up with. Right now only have older Pioneer boxes in the rear and can't hardly hear them over the 40 Series Flowmasters (prob. should junk them!?) Would kicks even help that much? Dash ones are history. (ain't goin' back in there either.)
I tossed a four inch round in each kick. I went JL audio, but for quality go with Rockford Fosgate. Even with these mid priced options, you can still hear them, and it also leaves the rear speakers open for any assorted range of music, because most 4 inch's are primarily good for High to mid range.
Keep in mind if you're running a stock stereo with these speakers, that the new ones are 4 ohm, and will want 75 W more than your stock speakers used. Stock speakers are 8-10 ohm. Your stereo may not be stable that low if it's stock.
I think though you actually "hear" the dash speakers the most as they bounce toward you off the windshield. I also put 2 small tweeters at the top corners of the windshield. And .... 2 in the kickpanels, 2 6x9 hidden up in the corners of the rear compartment and a sub in the former rightside storage compartment, took the lid off and traced it onto carpet covered plywood. Sounds awesome, still could't hear it over the sidepipes ....
Durango, Hey, glad to have your input over here, too! Radio is a Custom Autosound CVMV 200, ca. 1996, which according to mfgr., which I just talked to, IS a Pioneer at about 60 watts.

Cool. You should be okay watt and ohm wise. That Pioneer was designed with newer speaker technology in mind. Now, the speakers will still want more than what the stereo is giving them, as stereo makers don't want the added cost of large amps in the HUs, and so the amp market will have a reason to exist.
How serious are you about getting quality sound from the system in your Vette? I can outline a good system for your car that won't cost a lot, and will sound better than most you've heard.

That sounds like a real good setup. Could you post a pic of how the 6x9's are and the sub in the back? Thanks!

Actually I like EVERYTHING but the dash. I even like the color. Th dash just site wrong with me for some reason. I love the craftsmanship that went into it though so don't take that the wrong way.

I'm always game for 'something that won't cost a lot'!! Thanks.

Give me a budget to work with first, and tell me what kind of sound you like. SPL or SQ. Also, if you will be installing it all or having it done at a shop. Don't include a shop's labor when you give me how much you'd be able to spend.
First timer, where you located? I'm central CA....
Stereo, I took out all the stock crap, built a self enclosed box for the cargo bay, 2 Foose 12'vs, 2- 6" mids, 2 -4" mid/tweeter combo, 750 foose amp, Kenwood head. When I want to hear it, it will drown the Flowmaster 40's...

Do you have the amp running all yoru speakers and subs, or do you have the head unit doing some of the work? The 750 isn't a 6 channel is it?
