Have been using the gravity bleed method for 30 years and never a problem. Learned about it from an old mechanic who always told me "work smarter, not harder". I let them bleed while I am on the computer in the gargae or doing some other job. Just keep eye on master cylinder so it doesn't run dry.
I have a rock hard pedal on my 68 and it stops on a dime.

Hate to interrupt, but.............So I replaced my front calipers and drivers side first attached clear rubber hose to bleeder screw, opened it and waited until only clear new brake fluid came out, about 5 minutes. then pass. side. Then soft pedal. Did I not wait long enough, thought I was done since just solid fluid was showing in the tube. Thanks.
FFS, forget gravity bleed, forget vacuum bleeding, forget the two man pumping procedure, forget anything else, just buy a power bleeder already.
It will be the best $60 you ever spend, and you will be saying to yourself, "why the hell didn't I buy one of these years ago", I certainly was, and still do every time I use it.
It makes it a QUICK one person job, no chance of the master cylinder going empty and sucking air, and it makes bleeding even the most troublesome systems childs play.
