Does anyone know where i could buy a section of tint big enough to cover my full back window without splicing it? "I dont have a rear defogger" Also anyone know someone good around charleston west virginia area to tint it?
I'm not sure if they make a sheet of tint wide enough....someone correct me if I'm wrong..the rear glass on my Grand Prix has 2 sheets on it.....you can barely tell....Ithey overlapped just a hair........i'll probably end up doing two pieces when I do my 79....
You might want to look into the one-piece molded-plastic tint panel that the vendors sell. It pops right into the rear glass area. Much easier than getting back there to install regular tint.

Gila Pop In. Eckler's used to carry them. ZIP might have them.

Had the one piece don't waist your money. the squeeks that it make while driving will drive you crasy. You need LOUD exhaust and a LOD stereo to drownd out the squeeks.
Have a reputable place do the tint. I've had my hand in that jar before and tinting is NOT something I would suggest to someone who's never done it. It WILL bubble, and it WILL peal, and you WILL see gaps, unless you have tried and failed thirty times. It takes a long time to get good at it. If you mess up, you have to completely strip it and clean it and prepare to do it again. Trust me. It's worth paying $150 at a tint place to have them do it right. They have computers to cut the tint the size it needs to be, and they have access to tools and solvents that you don't. Just my experience in the matter.
I've done plenty of tinting myself and I dont believe you could do a 79 vette rear window with one piece. If its done right you'll barely notice the seams. All tint that I have seen is 20 inches wide.

I have done a little research into this. Stopped by a tint shop and asked a bunch of questions.
I have mirrored glass tops and told the guy that when I had it done, I wanted it to look close to the tops and wanted 1 piece for the rear glass. He said that to get the mirrored look - it would be a specific kind of tint and to get a piece big enough for a one peice back window it may be kind of expensive. He said that the tint vendors offer very large pieces and that it could be done (1 piece) with several different kinds of tint.
To give you an idea of the $$ - he said for my 2 door windows and the rear glass it would be $300 to $350 with the tint that I wanted, about $150 for a regular tint deal.
He also made a comment that he did not like to do 2 peice windows because usually the car owner was not happy. On the other hand, I have seen plenty of multi piece tint jobs that look good.

Most good shops will NOT do a two piece, and supply for the larger tint is becoming cheaper fro them to offer. I don't think him having his rear window done in a single piece costing more than a total of $250. Also, some shops will cut you a break if you give them the idea that you and your friends will be back for more tint.

IMHO I dont think a vette window can be done in one piece, too much of a curve,

i had my '79 tinted recently. my tint man told me he was able to use one piece on my rear window instead of splice. His sign said all tint $99. He charged me $125...i didn't gripe as i wanted to about the new price but reading this article i guess he deserves the other $25. I left there thinking i had the extra cost because its a "vette"
200-250 max to tint a bubble window vette...... the back will take the time since they use a heat gun to form the tint...... i have a friend that tints professionally and he can tint a 4 door car with back window in about 1.5 hours........ once the windows are clean....
also if you clean the windows befoew hand they might cut you a deal..use soap and water....no ammonia since it might affect the tint afterwards....
