Question on Big Block plug wires ??
I saw the other thread about wires for a SB, but didn't want to hijack that thread......So............
Does anyone know the significance of the steel braided - grounded plug wires on a 74 big block?
My originals were in a box of "junk" along with the car. It currently has yellow accels and I plan to replace with a "new" set of steel braided wires upon restoring under the hood.
Just seems like a little "overkill" for a set of factory GM wires.
If you still have the originals.... SAVE THEM!!!!!!!! I have 2 sets of repacements, 1 are "repros" with dates on them, the other set are the AC Delco service replacement. They look pretty much identical. (I think the repro wires are simply the AC Delcos that someone stamps a date on).

Somtimes the simple solution is so obvious we don't think of it. I was having the same problem and someone on the forum mentioned they simply change the #1 wire when they set timing. You have to take the shielding off anyway to loosen the distributor and adjust dwell, so now I just switch the #1 wire to use the timing light.
