Rather have a SB or BB than the LT5. My understanding you need a engineering degree to work on them.

That seller must have a few of the LT5s laying around. The motor I was looking at was from a '91, and that rolling chassis is a '90. He's got a lot of HP laying around in auctions.

Is that Oil filter location for real... Wouldn't that make for some messy oil changes ?

I think there are two oil filters. I have to look through some of my pics of an LT5, but Kalway and I were looking over a few and saw two oil filters.

Buy it - sell the engine to another LT5 fan. Put a new engine back in...

Nope. Only one oil filter and since it's upside down, no oily mess...unlike our bottom-mounted engines. In it's time, the LT-5 was the best thing around. It weighs more than a cast-iron sbc, and the size and complexity for only 405 hp. make the LS2/LS6/LS7 much more desirable.

Even though it's bigger, maybe even bigger tan a BBC, isn't it still an easier swap than an LS1, LS2, LS6, LS7?

Maybe a toss-up. Long term the LS size would win for ease of maintenance. I work on LT5's. Other than plugs and oil filter, a nightmare. The coil packs are under the intake plenum, as well as the starter motor. Any head work requires engine removal. It was the best G.M. could do at the time.

Yea I agree, if you need to do anything other than oil and plugs you're gonna have to go in deep. lotsa lines that can give problems.

One thing I am missing on this nice frame is the front mount for the diff, it'll definetely not hold up like this. they can't use a C beam like it was originally set up for because they ditched the zf tranny

While I'm not interested in the rolling frame, I may still want the motor the same seller had for sale. I emailed them, and found it's still for sale. If I can talk them down a little on price, and go get it...I may be buying an LT5. I'll sell the 6spd, and put in a 5spd to avoid the trans tunnel work. I'll probably have to remove the heater fan, core, and box. No telling just how much work it'll take to fit it in...but I'm seriously considering it.
