Considering the possibility of transporting a vehicle from Florida. Would anyone have a contact name, number or an estimate on cost per mile? It would be about 1,300 miles. I would appreciate the assistance.
We had our '78 Pace Car moved from Raleigh, NC to Indy area back in March of this year. It was my first experience with car transport. Our dealer in NC recommended a company called Showroom Transport that they use to have high line cars moved - MB/BMWs - what we subsequently learned is that they (showroom transport) put the job out on a bid board or something of that nature where haulers can bid on taking a given load. Our Vette was eventually picked up by Angel Wings Transport from Barnesville, GA.
. Picked up on a Wednesday - delivered next Monday
. $1095
. Enclosed trailer
. Sincle car trailer picked it up at our son's place - nice rig with Dodge diesel dually - senior couple - took alot of care with loading
. Car was hauled from NC to GA. It was moved to a 2nd trailer. Dual car enclosed - Ford diesel dually - single operator - very careful in all observed action.
. Car delivered with no issues as to damage, etc...
I was nervous from the git go, called the carrier dispatcher afew times - he threatened to take it back to NC if I gave them any more grief. I just wanted to know where our car way at any given time. This dispatcher was with the original company - showroom transport - don't think they want anything to do with move once it's picked up by a hauler. I think the Angel Wings Transport folks did a fine job.
I used Able Auto Transport back in July when gas prices were higher, open trailer from San Antonio,Texas to Indianapolis, In for 750.00,I can get you their number if interested, the car was in great shape when I picked it up!
I used DAS a couple times. The last one was from South Florida to SLC Utah. When it got here it wouldn't start (turns out the car alarm engine kill no longer works correctly). My car had a bunch of crap in it, papers and such, and with it not running (had to push start it) and winter approaching I just got it home and parked it. Couple months later I went to clean it out and found it someone had taken it for a joy-ride. Tooth brush, toothpase, postcards and souvenir coffee mug from George, etc. Hopefully in the next couple months I'll be shipping another car from FL to UT (been in the shop 2 f'ing years), and I'll be looking for someone other than DAS.
Intercity, Reliable or horseless carriage carriers....all good! I used Reliable from SC to IL covered transportation for $950. They had some expensive exotics on the truck when they delivered!
