Interestingly the 77 brochures (which could have used a 76 to do the brochures early) does show woodgrain. I do not recall seeing any 77 w/woodgrain however that would not have mattered to me so no reason to ...

The interior could have been redone later w/ parts from another car as the early parts may have been easier to get. The 78- gauge cluster does not fit w/o mod. in 77. The early ones -76 fit.
My 77 is a very early model (Sept. 3 build date) with Deluxe interior, and there is no woodgrain anywhere. The door panels are the originals with the Aug 76 date stamping on the back.

ALL,

I appreciate the help with this. I was directed to GM Canada. It appears that that VIN number was sold in Canada. Production Date 16SEP76. Invoice shows: Sliver paint, with A/C and crusie control. I'm becoming more certain that this is a 76 with a 77 VIN. I'll have a both guy look at the frame to see if the window/front end has been replace. One last question, did ALL 76's have the lock on the fender? Not sure what I'm going to do with these 77 books!

The fender lock for the alarm lasted through the first part of 77 production on all cars.

You really need to check your frame VIN, compare that to the windshield VIN, and show us a good picture of those windshield VIN rivets! You don't want to spend ANY more money on this car until you have it sorted out, or you could end up losing the whole thing to the original owner (if it's stolen).

Hey Neal....
I really hate to tell you this....but I think you used a little too much clear coat on your hood
I can see right through it
Beautiful car by the way!

So what did the late 77 fender emblem look like?
Mine also apparantly has the brushed aluminum horn button that was supposed to be recalled.

Exactly, this is just more evidence that the car is a 76.

If it were a 77 with tilt-tele it would use the deluxe wheel. All 76s used the same Vega wheel.

I dug up some pix taken in 76, of a brand new 76.

Hard to tell, but it's woodgrain

Crossed flags, same as the 78-79 cars.

That cap isn't aluminum, it's stainless and it's astonishingly rare. Last one I saw on eBay went well over $200. I know where I could get one if I wanted to pay for it...I like the black better myself.

I wouldn't be surprised if the section of the frame that has the VIN stamp has been "replaced" with a clean no stamp piece of steel ....

I'd look for the frame stamping and wouldn't spend a penny on this car if the numbers don't match the windshield VIN and the title.... this could very well be a car that was stolen... nothing but trouble.....

If the VIN numbers match, great.... this is a very nice looking Vette

True, My very late 77(Aug.77) had the Vega steering wheel and non-tilt collum, all 77s without tilt had the Vega wheel. The interior, and all the badging, wheel,(since his IS a tilt), virtually everything about the car except the VIN make it a 76. He really needs to check the frame VIN.
