Heh she's great. I tried to drag her out in the garage last night to show her all the progress on the 405. She looked at it, and managed to get a "Cool" out before her eyes glazed over and she started thinking of the episode of Grey's Anatomy that was going to be on later that night. She's great, and has the understanding that I love cars and working on them...I understand that she want no part of it...
I find it interesting how most Vette owners crave a second or even thirs Vette. I'v had three before, and sold two of them. I regret it and can't wait until a second one can be bought again. I'll do it smart this time though. Instead of three 1977 Corvettes I will get an earlier year, a rear chrome bumper car. My current is a small block auto, so my '73 will be a big block manual. Best of both worlds I think. Then after that it's a '08 C6 Z06.
You ever thought about building a big cube small block for the '78? Maybe stroking the factory motor and heading it?
Kicking around some ideas...only issue is I must continue with smog testing on the 78 every other year..Calif killed the "30 year rolling exemption" last year...so I'm sure I can drop a ZZ4 in and pass smog...but not a 383 stroker...
Was thinking also a LT1 cam grind, porting heads,etc...just not sure yet...original engine still runs strong...
So the 69 is the "power" vette...78 is just a cruiser..

Durango you talking to me or Rich? If your talking to me I think I'm just going to fix it up and sell it.Its almost too nice in the way of being original except for the engine. The body appears to have never been wrecked and I can see all the seams because the paint is so thin.Should make someone a nice car to restore.

Sorry, that was meant for you, but seeing as how I got an answer from rihwoods too the question got double duty. I really like how everyone has their own approach to buying and building these cars. I am not a seller, and selling the last two Vettes killed me. I miss them all the time and that was five years ago.
rihwoods - The '78 being a strong cruiser and an emmissions car I can understand keeping it stock. Smart on your part. A ZZ4 would be a hot motor though.

I was not sure of the 78 question myself, so just decided to jump in...

The only one that ever made me tear up was my 66 Mossport 350 HP 4 speed vert. If I sell this 78 I have my eye on an 80 that was a drag car with no engine and tranny and huge snorkel hood.
Did anyone see ConAir where that beautiful C2 was picked up by a tow hook on a plane, flown around the air field, dragged througha control tower, and dropped several hundred feet to a crushing doom? Made me sick.
