I just got done shooting the primer on my 74 last night, I still need to sand it and put another coat of primer on it, but am starting to look at the paint options. For primer I used PPG K36, what the paint shop recommended, I don't know much about paint/primer (someone else is helping me learn what I'm doing). My question is what is the difference between the different types of paint on the PPG website, there is Standard Urethane base coat, Premium Urethane base coat, Original fast dry acrylic based lacquer, PPG MBC, MTK, MAE? Also what is recommend for my car? This might be answered somewhere else on the page. Thanks for any help and opinions.
MTK is omni single stage urethane. MBC is omni base. Omni is ppg's cheaper line. PPG's best base is dbc. I have sprayed a lot of it and it's my favorite. Their concept single stage is the best out there.
I agree with bondoboy that DBC is the best, but only if you've had prior paint experience because it allows you to vary the reducer ratios yourself based on temperature and how you like to spray. DBU is very good as well and might be better for the less experienced occasional painter because the mix ratio is specific and the end results will be more predictable. I use DBC & DBU for complete paint jobs and DBU for spot repairs. DCU is my favorite clear for both bases.

Al,
I thought Concept Acylic Urethane Single Stage was basically a cheaper verison of Deltron DBU but maybe I'm wrong on that. I know that one advantage of shooting DBU is that it does not require a flex additive.

OOPs! I corrected the code above. I should have typed DCU for the clear.
The only problem someone might have with dbu is that it takes a reactive reducer which sets up the base. Whatever you mix, you have to use because it has a limited pot life. With dbc any unused reduced paint can be put into a separate can and used another time. Also, dbu is slowly being phased out. Not every color can be mixed in dbu. I don't understand what you mean by varying mix ratios with dbc. Dbc is mixed 1:1, but you can use whatever speed reducer you like. I always thought it was very easy to spray. Scott Marzahl, dbu and concept are two different things. Concept is a single stage which doesn't require clear, and dbu is base which requires clear because base has no shine.
