I just purchased a 72 coupe and I'm trying to check the originality..
I know you guys/gals on this site are the experts..
Can anyone help me authenticating these dates/codes ?
engine pad VO4950CKX I believe to be April 5th 72
Trim tag date is I 13
heads are C-29 and C-27-2 ( 3973487X ) whats's with the X ?
Block cast date looks like B 202
From what I know, you're OK. Your block stamp on the pad is for the base 350/200 horsepower(the 3 letter code). The trim tag is April (I) and the day of the month. 487X is the correct casting number for the heads. The block casting number on the drivers side, behind the cylinder head should be 3970014 but could be 3970010. Does any of the block stamp match the VIN? Have fun! Jim.
Thanks...yes the vin #'s match...does the B on the cast date de-code to February ? making the engine cast in February, engine pad stamped on April 5th and car completed April 13th ??
The engine pad VO4950CKX has one too many numbers.
V=Flint Engine plant
CKX=base Vette engine for '72
but the 04950 has one too many numbers. Should be two digits for the month and two digits for the year. Something like 0405 for April 5th.
