Hey-Man, I'm glad the paint system is working out for you! Your 79 is gonna look BAAAD in Blue. Painting around the s/s t-top trim vs removing it is often brought up on the forum. It appears you taped the trim off and painted with it in place. How does the paint look along the s/s trim edge?
You have my best wishes and luck as you progress. I will be watching and learning from your experience. Sometime in the future I hope to meet you FTF and see your car. No better feeling than what you get from DIY.

No, I removed the stainless trim. What you see on the photo is the damaged area under the stainless trim. I did not clean that area because the trim will cover it.
I painted the tops off the car, I just popped them in place for the photos.
I'm sure we'll meet at Speedworld on Dec 3rd - I won't have the car painted by then, maybe it's ready for the 2007 Eckler's reunion
How did you get the trim off? Mine look like they were glued on with a gallon of epoxy.
A gallon of epoxy remover and patience I did not know that I have that much patience....
I used a small screwdriver to pry it loose, I managed to get it off without bending or damaging the trim... the Fiberglass top suffered slight damage as you can see on the pics. Fortunately the damage will be covered by the trim.
