"The Opel GT is a two-seat sports car introduced by Opel in 1968. Its styling was unmistakably like the Chevrolet Corvette of that year. Although they were both designed by Larry Shinoda, the Opel GT came first and is regarded as his "favorite" in his memoirs."
Maybe the Opel GT came first, but his FAVORITE? Please.
Maybe Bangkok Dean needs to pass me that joint, but I always kind of wanted an older Opel GT as one of my next projects for if/when I'm done with working on my Corvette.
I've always wanted an Opel GT, a Jaguar V12 E-type, and a 1988 Mustang GT convertable
I had an Opel GT. It think it cornered better than my Vette. It was tiny, I could drive under the parking lane dividing ropes at the local shopping mall. My wife wasn't strong enough to flip the head lights so if she was going to take the car and be out after dark I would have to flip them for her before she left home.
Even with all the fond memories of the GT, I would have to say my Vette is the favorite car I have ever owned.
My Dad had an Opel GT 20 years ago. Cool little car, I liked it.
A friend of mine had a couple he had hot-rodded with, I believe, 4-cylinder Ford engines with fuel injection, headers, etc. Fast, good handling little buggers.
I saw one down in Florida a few years ago which had the top chopped off. Even though it was obviously a driveway sawzall job, it was finished fairly nicely and had really nice lines. A professional convertible conversion would be a very sexy car.
I like and respect the Opel GT.
opel = junkbox & should'nt even be used in the same sentence as "CORVETTE" ZIXXX PACKER
Before you go arbitrarily throwing out BS comments like that, why don't you do a little research on Opel. Your provincial mind may be in for a surprise.
i had the pleasure of being "loaned" a 72 GT that a friend of mine had bought for his wife back then, when my regular ride went down. it was quite a car for it's time and enjoyable to drive, but boy was it small inside and you really needed your wheaties that day to get the headlamps to flip over (it was an all mechanical lever operated system, and the lights actually rolled over from the side if i remember correctly). i had the car for a bit over a month and had a pretty good time with it.

When the Opel GT was new I was at the age where I was looking for my first car & I wanted one. One of the car mags, Car Life I think, did a roadtest & liked it- they referred to it as a mini-Vette.
As it turned out my Mom had a friend whose son was selling the 60 Vette in my photo album & I got that instead for a grand total of $925, including a Vette 327 w/ Duntov 30-30 cam & Cragar SS wheels. The day I picked up the Vette there was a 69 Baldwin Phase III Camaro there- it smoked the tires all the way down the block when it left. Those were the days!

My first car was a 1972 Opel Gt. But, I wasn't confused, I knew which car I really wanted--if only I coulda afforded it...

Actually, Opel and Vauxhall are GM divisions...just like Holden of Australia.
In 1929, Opel joined GM’s worldwide family, becoming a wholly owned subsidiary of General Motors. Leveraging General Motor’s extensive production and distribution network, Opel has been able to extend its vision of bringing affordable technology to as many people as possible throughout Europe, Asia, Australia and South America. Since its acquisition of Opel, GM Europe has continued to increase its activities in Europe.
