i'm looking at a few gravity metal band saws and would like to spend less than 500 for a good one..... any suggestions
i looked at delta/jet so far...... i have a jet table saw but the rest of my power machines are delta..... porter cable also.......
i think a variable speed setting (without adjusting pulleys if possible) and a wide table would be key........ mainly cutting bar stock aluminum/steel..... i had a milaukee chop saw but got sick of the cuts and roughness.......
maybe a portaband with a stand?...... a full setup would be nice though.....
I have been a rep for Lenox saw blades for 22 years now and have seen them all. I mainly deal with 20K to 100K+ machines but have seen many under 1K machines. The Delta is a pretty good saw. Do not get a porta band mounted saw. A porta band is just that. No designed to cut bar stock on a routine basis. You will want at least a 1/2 band preferable to get a 3/4 inch band. Straighter cuts longer lfe just more stable of a machine. Stay far away from a Carolina, nothing but problems but very cheap. Also stay away from the Harbour Freight saws. Same deal. Variable speed is nice but usually in higher priced saws. If you are cutting Stainless you want at least 100 fpm for a band speed. About 200 to 250 for carbon steels if you are cutting wet. I could go on, if you want any more info let me know. I'd be happy to help.
P.S. Use Lenox blades!
