Emblems were changed from every few years to sometimes every year.
Emblems are for identification. On the low volume (for GM) Corvette, emblems are an inexpensive way to identify a new car at the time.
Guess:
Upper looks like 68-72.
Lower looks like 65-66.
This is on my 63: (a little old and worn - time to restore).
Notice the pattern in the checkered flag, starting at the top left corner, bk/wh. so mid years vs. sharks isn't the only change in pattern? Maybe someone can post the exact years with the correct flags? WB
Yes, I can tell you the difference in your upper cross flag emblem. On the top square of the checkered flag, the square nearest the flag pole is black on 1970 and 1972 cars and white on 1971 cars.

I thought that the pattern was different in the early 70's! How about the pattern changes in the mid years? WB
Now to add more confusion, here is the fuel door on a 63 (different than the nose emblem). Sorry for the small image - I didn't have a picture of mine, so I took this from a catalogue.

I'll have to look at the fuel door on my 71 now! It looks like at the post it starts with white? WB

On my 71 the top square nearest the flag pole is white on the horn button, but black on the hood and gas lid emblems. Maybe those were replaced? Should the pattern be consistent throughout the car?
Both of my '71's are original paint cars, both external cross flag emblems on both cars show a black square on top.
One car has telescopic column horn button, other has standard horn button. Both emblems have white square on top. Both cars are original interiors and unrestored.
