Default 74 Vette Questions

Hey all, I have a 1974 Original BIG BLOCK car, it is a one owner and is complete, it has 53k miles all in mint condition, The question I have is, I was told that there is a possibility that this is one of the last production 74 big block vettes ever to roll off of the assembly line, I am going to give you the VIN and maybe someone has a way of telling me more info on the car, like whether or not it is the last one?
1Z37Z4S434626

I appreciate the help!!

The last '74 was 1Zx7y4S437502 according to the Black Book. It actually says 1Z37J... but that is just the VIN range there is no way to know if the last was a coupe (x=3) or convertible (x=6) or whether it is a L48 (y=J), L82 (y=T), or 454 (y=Z) from that listing.

Yours should have been built in Sept 1974 and would be some of the last built.

I remember there were articles on the Last Convertible when it was built (white with red interior) that went to the dealer across the street from the plant, but I don't remember any on the last big block.

One of the last big blocks? Hard to say. 37502 was the last '74, putting your car 2876 from the end of production. We can speculate that somewhere in that 2876 there were big block cars, but there probably isn't any documentation to tell us how many.

Thanks for posting your VIN number. I happen to be a collector of 74 Corvette VIN numbers. If we can manage to collect all the convertible VINs or big-block VINs, we can then determine the actual number of big-block convertibles, etc., and authoritatively correct erroneous information floating around on the web, eBay, etc.

Unfortunately for you, your car is not the last big block Corvette produced. There are at least 4 others produced after yours. Incidentally, the last big block Corvette VINs I have are all coupes. That's not to say that there weren't any big block convertibles produced after your car - I'm just not aware of any.

If you would be so kind, please respond or email me with additional particulars on your car, including auto/4-speed, PW, PB, PS, AC, Tilt, int/ext color, leather/vinyl, etc.

mayberg, did I ever send you my list of 1974 Corvettes that I had??? Don't remember if I ever did or not.

...also I saw a ragged out '74 454 coupe at Carlisle in the car corral a few years ago that had like VIN # 37496 At that time, I thought maybe IT WAS the last bigblock Corvette made, but then who knows???

As you "regulars" know....I love this particular topic. As Fratzke7 has inquired about the LAST or possibly the HIGHEST vin # big block.....I propose that I might have the LOWEST and possibly 1st 74 big block CONVERTIBLE. That would be # 000036. I just look forward to when I have mine "finished". In the last few months, I have found all of the "posters" above to be well aquainted with these cars and a lot of help.

By the way, Fratzke7.....we NEED pictures!

Mayberg...in your "burn out picture"...the back of our heads are identical !

Paul....send me your LIST !

I don't believe so. Originally I was just collecting big-block and convertible VINs (apologies to L82 coupes) but now it's wide open. Send on the particulars and I'll add them to the database.

Was it like 37496, or was it actually 37496. If so, I'll add it. Do you recall any particulars? Int/Ext color, auto/manual, PS, PB, PW, Tilt, AC, etc.?

Uh, hmmmm......is that a compliment?

Normally I'm hatted (is that a word) but it was in the evening. Did you notice my co-pilot?

And if you do that, check your driver's side motor mount and then post a pic.

Oh yea...it was a compliment....

My wife (artist) was surfing yahoo image search and found your burnout picture. She was looking for pics for a new painting she plans to do of a white 74. She ask me...who took this picture of YOU at the SONIC? I said "damn, look at the back of that head.... that does look like me, but I know who it is...that's Mayberg's car, he's on the forum." I can't quite make out your co-pilot in the picture.....I suspect it may be similar to mine below. If I leave the top down, this fool runs up the hood and over the windshield. Loves to go! I will have to stop this after the paint is done!

Easy Mike.....build sheet shows 08/13.....door plate shows A14.

...mayberg, it was years ago-I should have wrote everything down but was walking with a friend when I viewed it. I'll have to hunt for my '74 info. I think I have over 64 1974 VINs in it with colors, options, etc.

Thanks - you're in the list. Please forward trans, int/ext color, PS, PB, PW, Tilt, AC, and any other notables.

You make the 39th 74 big-block convertible in the registry.

I've collected a little over 5% of the convertibles and 5% of the big-blocks.

I have a 74 LS-4 coupe, VIN: 1Z37Z4S428222, TH-400, 3.08, bright yellow, medium saddle vinyl, PS, PB, air, all numbers match.

I would also be interested in knowing when it was built, whether it was one of the last ones, and anything else about it you might be able to provide. Thanks.

Paul,
About all I can tell you is that this one showed up on eBay many moons ago. The trim plate on the drivers door jamb gives better information that I have regarding when it was built. Thanks for providing your VIN.
