Clocks stop because of worn or corroded contacts. You can fix you clock by opening it, and using a small file to clean all the metal contacts. It'll work like a charm.

A little lubricant helps, too. However, it is easy to get far too much, so dab it lightly with a toothpick dipped in a VERY light lubricant.

It's not hard. You have to remove the center gauge cluster. Beware the two fasteners at it's base where it meets the shifter console. They break easily if not separate properly. Id be best to take off the console side panels to get to those.

Once the center gauge cluster panel is out, you will find the gauges are attached to it. Just get it onto a work bench, and remove the gauge pod from it. The clock will be held on with two stud-nuts.

Just go slow and be careful.

I am on the verge of tackling this in my 80. How do you remove the set stem for the clock with out breaking it? I have looked over the archives but haven't found the specifics on this procedure.

That one I'm not sure. Maybe that deserves it's own thread.

Here's a good report on the how to, don't think it covered the stem removal.

Yea, I saw that thread to the 77 clock fix yesterday when I was trying to find the info. places other than this forum. I remember seeing something on it long ago but now can't find the removal procedure for the set stem anywhere. Surely can't be that hard but don't want to break it being stupid.

Oh, the second link looks useful. Thanks!

He got the stem out without breaking it? That's a good watch place if they can disassemble car parts too...
