Default Rally Wheels

Anyone know the value of like new OEM Rally Wheels? I'm estimating they are from a 79. Supposedly taken off the car when bought new and replaced with aftermarket rims. Have been stored in boxes ever since.

The caps and rings are like brand new I'm told. Going to look at them after I get off work.

Mercy, LNIB rally wheels with rings and caps...

If truly LNIB, then I'd personally think $125 per wheel plus $125 for ring and cap for a total of $1,000 for a set of 4 would be a great deal.

Even better if they were date coded late Aug or early Sep 1978...

If you're not interested in them, can you let the rest of us know where they are?

Thanks...

Went and looked at the Rally Wheels tonight. Actually, he had one he showed me and said the others are just like it. I do have a question regarding the finish on the rim. The finish is a little rough, meaning that unlike the Rally rims on my 72 which have a smooth shiny finish, this rim looked like it was repainted. It was gray, but did not have a smooth shiny finish. Is that normal? The date code on the rim was
K183 hole 4 AZ. I guess that makes it a 1978 rim. The trim ring and center cap looked perfect. The trim ring had two very minor scruffs, not a bid deal.

Not really sure about the scuffed finish, but I am fairly sure that these paint for these wheels were baked on in the plant or at the supplier. That is why your '72 wheels have the smooth finish. Maybe they were painted, but you would have to inspect them closely looking for sand marks.

Post some pics when you have them.

Good luck,
Dino

I've read that the wheels were hung on a hook and the argent silver sprayed on. Nothing was done to mask the back sides since the backs would not show once the wheels were mounted on the car. A lot of these wheels have silver overspray on the backsides.

Thanks for the response. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with them if they accept my offer. I was originally thinking of using them on my 72, but not too sure now. At the very least, I may keep the trim rings and center caps for spares and sell the rims.

Does anyone know if there is a difference with the trim rings from a 72 to a 79? The trim rings currently on my car snap onto the rim differently than the 79 trim rings. The 79 trim rings have 4-5 sets of prongs (3 at each location) that snap over the edge of the rim compared to my 72 that is held on to the rim more from the center of the rim. Any insight would be useful.

I see you got the $400 set of wheels!

I've heard that the year portion of the date stamp can be two digits, so this would make these 1981 production year rims. This makes sense since the person I bought these from told me they are from her 82 vette. I was going to use them, on my 72, but thought I could use the money to buy some other things I need for my car.

The trim rings and center caps are absolutely perfect. I even have all of the original lugs that came off the car. These are a must see. I will post pics as soon as I get a chance, but I can send a couple of pics (1 rim and date stamp) that I took with my camera phone.

I'm asking $1200 plus shipping obo. I'd prefer local pick up since I'd rather not want to hassle packing and shipping. I'm also willing to trade for items that I need like a factory big block hood, so let's hear your offers.
My offer is $500 and Ill need them shipped.
