Default So I indexed/scanned my assembly manual and put a web interface onto it...

A month or two ago I scanned in my '69 assembly manual and indexed it and put a web interface onto it because it's a pain in the $#@ finding something in it. It's been a lot easier to look up/peruse stuff since I did it.

So I thought, what if I did this for more corvette manuals? Other types of cars? Assuming there's no copyright attached to it of course.

Would anyone find something like this useful? Any comments would be helpful. Here is what I've slapped together thus far: http://www.classiccarmanual.com/

Good thing I didn't mention I indexed every single part number, torque, lube, adhesive, and name and cross referenced them to sheets...

I discovered that the part numbers in AIMs are useless (at least without this parts and illustration guide I can't seem to get ahold of)

That is very cool! I just spent about 15 minutes looking through it. Much better than flipping through the manual!

Double nerd! It's all good though, the time it'll probably save you and many others is worth that label.

I can brute force anything. Even if it's a nerd's endeavor.

Nihil,
Awesome job.
To answer your question: Yes, I would find stuff like this very useful. I have the assembly manual for my 68 and I would love it if it were on the computer.
I tried the search thing on yours and nothing happened but a working search feature would be great.
Nice job.
Let us know if you do others (such as the 68) or any other Corvette manuals.
Thanks,
Kurt

Thats awsome , must have taken a while!
Maybe you would like to donate it to these guys?

These guys have a few Corvette brochures and tons of old manuals/brochures on line for other cars...good reading

You did do a good job. Be careful about sharing it, I'd bet there's a copyright somewhere.

Looks great, very usefull.

A while ago I was looking for info on scanning and creating pdf docs with a mfc printer we bought.
I ran accross a guy on the web that used an auto feed mfc scanner with AdobePro. He stacked pages from books into the scanner and let it scan, collate, index and create a single pdf file of the complete book while he watched a dvd. Sounded great, but I don't have acrobatpro and don't want to spend $400.00 for it. Nice feature of pdf is the small file size and zoom.

Just food for thought.

Last month somebody posted a link to the complete '53-82 Corvette Parts and illustration guide, in .pdf, 6 parts...pretty high-quality scans.

I should have qualified that a little better. After looking at that one, I think I'm going to need to track down a 1970 or so manual.
